What do you wish Jesus never said?

By Pastor Andrew Oates in Ascent Church 5 months ago | 226 views Link: http://bit.ly/cVzN2F

When I was growing up I always heard the pastor say that Jesus wanted us to “love our enemies”.  It was so difficult especially in the second grade, when this girl Carrie was so unkind to me, and always said the meanest things.  Kids can be cruel.  And Jesus wanted me to love this cruel girl, my enemy.  I really wish Jesus never said that.  What about you?  What do you wish Jesus never said?  Join the conversation.

I wish Jesus never said commanded is to honor our parents. After my dad left my mom to love with another woman, neglecting his relationship with my brother and I, it is so hard for me to honor and respect him. For so long I hated my dad and had no desire to forgive him… Why would God command us to honor people that have hurt us so much in the past.

Mark 14:7 The poor you will always have with you

I wish Jesus had never made that promise.  I would like to hope that poverty will one day be eradicated, but His statement doesn’t provide such hope.  It makes me kinda sad.

This is going to sound bad..but I wish Jesus never said to honor your
father and mother…because sometimes you see your parents doing some
not so honorable things.

I always remember hearing the “Lord’s Prayer” and struggling with the part that says, “Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”. Sometimes its so hard to forgive us who have let us down or hurt us so much, when we feel like they don’t deserve forgiveness.

Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven." -Matthew 18:21-22

This has been incredibly hard in my life. I know that unforgivness can eat you up over time, and hurts and damages relationships, but it seems so much easier to hold on to resentment and unforgiveness rather than have to go through the daily and difficult process of forgiving those who have hurt you greatly.

This is going to sound absolutely awful, and God forgive me but,

John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

I sometimes think about all of the very devout believers of other faiths, and wish Jesus hadn’t been so rigid.

“So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” Revelation 3:16.NKJV. This verse makes me cringe because so many of us are caught up in the world that we become lukewarm so easily! God help us to fall more in love with you!

Matthew 5:38+39 are especially diffifult for me: “You have heard that it is said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” It is so hard to actually follow through with this in life because of our sinful selves’ urge to retaliate and take revenge if another harms us.

I am probably the third person to say this, but honoring your mother and father. The last thing I want to do is honor my parents. Most of the time I can’t even tell them I love them, yet alone obey them with a happy heart. It’s the hardest thing to do when you see the way your parents truly are, and then try to follow this commandment. I struggle with it on a daily basis.
As most theologians says Matt 24:36 “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” sure does make the whole Jesus is god thing more difficult to explain.

And this one seems to be too painful from Matt 19:12
For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.”

Before Jesus acsended into heaven, He gave, what I believe to be for me, a command saying “Therefore go (as you are going) and make disciples….” i dont wish he didnt say this.(double negative) because it IS a good thing. It is hard for me in my life right now KNOWING that he said this…..I live right now not being a light, much lessmaking a disciple…..my heart aches knowing his teachings and his gospel……and numbing myself to it because it is easier…….

“there’s just two ways to lose yourself in this life……and neither way is safe…..”
